Gary Smulyan continues to be the most in demand baritone saxophonist on the jazz scene today. He has 12 recordings as a leader to his credit and has performed on over 200 recordings as a sideman. His most recent CD, "Smul's Paradise" is scheduled for a fall 2011 release on the Capri record label. He is the recipient of 8 Grammy awards for his work with Dave Holland, Joe Lovano, The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Diana Ross, and B.B. KIng. Mr. Smulyan has won both the Down Beat Critics' Poll and the Jazz Journalist Award for 2007 ,2008, 2009, and 2010 and the Jazz Times Critics' and Reader's Polls for 2011. Gary is currently an adjunct professor of Jazz Saxophone at Amherst College and endorses Vandoren Woodwind products.He is a regular member of the Dave Holland Big Band and Octet, The Joe Lovano Nonet, The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, and the Dizzy Gillespie Alumni All Star Big Band.
